Bulletin Board
The primary purpose of the Lake Chelan Sailing Association is to provide boating education on Lake Chelan and surrounding waters. Sailing classes and Washington State Mandatory Boater Education course dates will be posted as they are scheduled.
Special Topics for awareness
Vessel Noise - A small number of motor boaters choose to switch off their exhaust mufflers in violation of state law. One inconsiderate person in a loud boat can invade the environment of thousand of people on and around the lake. We support the enforcement of existing vessel noise limits. Are we anti-motorboat? No! There are a number of motorboat owners who are members of LCSA, we encourage the courteous use of our waters by all users.
Rental Watercraft Safety - Inexperienced users of rental watercraft are not being sufficiently educated by the companies they rent from posing a danger to themselves and other boaters as evidenced by emergency room records. Let's increase the knowledge level out there and hold the rental companies accountable for their profits off of our public waters.
Public Access - Public access areas to Lake Chelan are coming under increased pressure and in many cases need improvement. Let's make it easy to enjoy Lake Chelan. Launches, marinas and associated parking areas need to be boater friendly.
Safe Navigation - Government Agencies are placing tree roots called "Large Woody Debris" (LWD) as fish habitat without regard to navigational safety and sound science. The placement of LWD above the 1075' elevation in Lake Chelan is dangerous and unattractive. The Lake can be drawn down to 1083' leaving many of the LWD placements high and dry part of the year (obviously useless to young fish). These higher elevation placements become hazards to navigation as they are covered by water and unmarked. There are no studies showing the LWD to be a benefit to any native fish species in Lake Chelan when placed above the 1075' level yet land owners continue to be forced to place LWDs if they wish to improve their property or dock.
Anti Pollution - We have joined with Rotary and others to distribute "no spill" containers to on the water fueling stations to catch fuel from overflow spigots and reduce the direct contribution of petroleum to the lake.
Education - We provide free sailing classes to the community and free classes for the new State Mandatory Boater Education Card.
